History of Castillejos... Originally the Pueblo de Uguic created in 1743. Present name adopted in 1863 in honor of the Marques de Castillejos who distinguished himself in the battle of the Valley of Castillejos.

Historically, researcher data turned up some funny and original stories as to how "Castillejos" came about. There is the one about how our town was name after the big city of "Castille" in Spain, thus, we are the smaller of the two. And then there is how the one about the Spanish man who came to the town and asked of our native (ITA) where he was. The little man not understand what he was being asked, started to the stranger "Kastila Siya, Kastila Siya". When the man reported back to his superiors and was asked whence he came, he told them from "Castillesha", evolving to what is now our present town. Now, you can believe any wild stories about the name, but the sincerity and dedication of the people from this town speaks greatly for the history of "Castillejos".
